We understand the value of support during your consult and encourage you to bring your partner, friend or family member to the appointment. We offer a range of appointment options guided by your preference. Please discuss this with our lovely Admin officer at the time of booking.
Your options include:
- In-person consultation (Thursdays only)
- Video consultation
Note: At the time of booking, a non-refundable deposit of $100 will be charged in advance as part payment of your initial appointment fee.

New CONSULTATION ($250): 45 mins - 1 hour
This includes a review of your personal and family history of cancer diagnoses or other relevant genetic conditions. The discussion would also address options for appropriate genetic testing (diagnostic testing where genetic testing has not previously been undertaken, or no known gene change is reported in the family OR predictive testing where a gene change is identified in a relative). The genetic counsellor will discuss the possible outcomes and implications of genetic testing for you and your family and will aim to address any questions or concerns you may have.
If you are eligible for public funded genetic testing (MBS item #73295, #73296, #73297 etc.), there will be no out-of-pocket expense for the genetic testing itself. However, if you are ineligible to access MBS-funded testing, you have the option to self-fund genetic testing (paid directly to the laboratory). The genetic counsellor will discuss this with you during the appointment. A consultation fee is payable in either instance.
*NOTE:
If you choose to proceed with testing, the result consultation fee of $200 will be charged and a follow up appointment will be scheduled with your genetic counsellor in approximately 8 weeks’ time.
Result Consultation ($200)- 30 minutes
A follow-up appointment will be made to discuss the result of your genetic testing, regardless of the result, as part of your consent to genetic testing. The genetic counsellor will review your result in the context of your personal and family history, discuss the medical and emotional implications, and go over the surveillance and testing options as appropriate for your family members.
Our Clinical policy—aligned with best practice guidelines—is to deliver results within a consultation with a qualified genetic counsellor. This ensures that the information is explained accurately and that any implications are clearly understood.
Cancellation policy
Due to limited availability of appointments, and to ensure that all patients can be cared for, please be reminded we have a 48hour cancellation policy for all appointments. The following charges will apply:
· Cancel or reschedule 48hrs prior to your appointment - no charge
· Cancel the appointment with less than 48hrs notice - $100 fee applies.
· Change your appointment from in-person to video or phone – no charge.
· Failure to attend your appointment without notice, a full consultation fee of $250 will apply.
Please Note:
There are currently no Medicare or private health insurance rebates for a genetic counselling appointment.
